Diary, 1816.

Medical and surgical journal, 1816, kept by Thomas V. Wiesenthal while employed as naval surgeon aboard the U.S. Frigate "Java." Includes daily sick reports with entries recording the name and number of patients admitted and discharged from care, diagnosis, and running totals of sick or injured crew members. Individual case histories additionally describe an unsuccessful amputation of a crew mmebers leg and a case of severe concussion. Summary remarks on the overall health of the crew and the factors affecting it follow the sick reports. Includes several pages of medical recipes and prescriptions.
